hermann & audrey: what’s inspired you lately?
cory: stanley kubrick. his classical films are a huge inspiration. all of them are smooth, never handheld. my favorite film of his is barry lyndon. people might find it slow, but the way it’s shot is beautiful. other films of his that have stuck with me are a clockwork orange, full metal jacket and the shining. his meticulous attention to detail and passion are transparent in his work, and i respect that.
h&a: what have you been focusing on?
cory: i’ve been focusing on a lot of fashion creatives lately, and in the last month, three have been published in fabric, plaid and filler. i’ve also been working with spot6 to create vignettes of each model.
h&a: if i say great design what is the first thing that pops into your head?
cory: peter lindbergh. he’s a classic photographer, and is the root of where fashion photography began. you could say he’s the building box of where everything started, and is an incredibly well established fashion photographer. he’s widely known for his black and white photography, but has pretty much done everything.
h&a: can you summarize your creative style?
cory: i’m always trying to do something weird and augment reality stylistically. i’ve always wanted to do something different, something to make you look at an image for longer than five seconds.
h&a: what is the piece of work you are most proud of, and why?
cory: my work in filler magazine, because two different editorials were published. see it here
h&a: what would people find surprising about you?
cory: i used to be a professional skier, but shattering my knee changed things. i still love to ski, but now it’s just for fun.
