OUTSIDER, the latest exhibition by contemporary artist Jon Todd opened at Hermann & Audrey last Thursday in the midst of a torrential downpour. With thanks, the rain didn’t slow the hundred art fans and collectors who braved the elements to support this exceptionally talented artist in this solo show.
OUTSIDER are contemporary portraitures whose intricately painted bodies provide the viewer with a means to decipher the character’s life story, leading to a contrasting blend of rawness and refined beauty. Influenced by central American naïve art, tattoo graphics, street art, Asian, Northern Europe and Mexican culture, these finely textured pieces appear in light box, lenticular installation, collage and mixed media on wood panel.
Missed the vernissage? It’s still open. Gallery hours this week will kick off with an Art Party on Thursday evening (the 23rd) from 9pm-12am as well as regular Gallery hours Friday 12-8pm, Saturday 12-5pm and Sunday 12-5pm. Appointments are also available throughout the week to view the collection.
Steadily gaining international recognition, Todd has exhibited widely in North America and has won several awards for his work. See the collection online here: www.jontodd.ca/outsider2014
